27.02.2017 Retaining freshness of bagged feed and pet food

Concetti, Bastia Umbra, Italy, has introduced Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), to its fully automatic bagging systems. This latest innovation is designed to help dry pet food and animal feed producers offer the best quality of product and improve profitability. The technology significantly extends shelf life of animal feed and pet food, while preserving taste and freshness in each bag. The company has just tested a fully automatic IGF 1200 machine with a double feeding system, designed for 4-20kg gusseted open mouth paper bags with inner PE liner.

The MAP application designed by Concetti consists of the replacement of air with a single gas, such as nitrogen or a mixture of gases, during the entire filling process, not only in the package itself. Then, while still under a blanket of nitrogen, a device closes and seals the bags tightly. By replacing the breathable atmosphere in a package with a pure gas or a gas mixture, including nitrogen, the shelf life of products can be significantly extended, helping them to look, smell, and taste fresh far longer than would otherwise be the case. MAP technology and other recent Concetti developments will be featured 4-10 May at interpack, Düsseldorf, on Stand D31 in Hall 14. www.concetti.com
