10.12.2012 Removing optically undetectable contaminants from bulk food products

S+S Separation and Sorting Technology, Schönberg, Germany, has introduced the RAYCON BULK which  uses the latest X-ray scanning techniques to identify and remove most types of contamination as small as 0.6mm, even when embedded in or of the same colour as the product. It can be applied to both fine and coarse-grained, dry, free flowing material. The complete system, including vibration chute and separation system, is supplied ready for integration into existing conveying systems.
Main foreign bodies detected by this new device include metals, stones and glass. Metal particles embedded in products, dark stones in black pepper, stones that are coloured red by red paprika, or green glass fragments in green dried herbs are examples of contaminants that are invisible to optical colour sorting machines, but are detected by the RAYCON BULK system. www.sesotec.com
