10.12.2012 Simple modification transforms mixing silo’s performance

Kreyenborg Plant Technology, Münster, Germany, reports that a 20m³ mixing silo with internal pipe auger that it supplied to the Hamburg plant of Ponachem, has been operating successfully for the past 20 years. The supplier points out that over the course of time, the requirements of a mixing silo (different materials, mixing quality and performance parameters) often change, but simple adjustments to the process may be possible.
By replacing the pipe auger with an open mixing screw with special segments, Ponachem achieved a better mixing result, a shorter mixing time - 20 minutes instead of four hours - and was able to drastically reduce energy consumption of the mixer. The results were determined on the basis of plastic regrind. However, this mixing technology is suitable for all free-flowing materials.
Kreyenborg Plant Technology delivers universal quick mixers in the form of homogenising silos for a wide range of applications in the bulk solids industry. It is also able to provide modifications and enhancements to existing mixers and special silos built both by itself as well as by other manufacturers. www.kreyenborg-pt.de
