Research into degradation of bulk solids during pneumatic conveying
One of the world’s largest chemical companies is creating a postgraduate study opportunity at the University of Greenwich in the UK, to research and develop a method for predicting breakage of particles in process plants. Studies will be based at The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology at the University’s campus in Chatham, Kent. This project will employ leading-edge technology to investigate experimentally the behaviour and breakage of the particles in flow, and modelling this behaviour with a view to producing a tool-kit that can be used by engineers in industry to control this problem which costs billions of dollars worldwide.
The candidate will be registered initially for MPhil, and will transfer to PhD subject to suitable progression; the duration will be three years, mostly based in Chatham but with time spent in Germany as well. The successful candidate will receive a £13,900 bursary for three years and tuition fees will be paid by the collaborating partner. Applicants must hold a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (UK or UK equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
For further details contact the supervisor, Professor Michael Bradley (tel: +44 (0)208 331 8646).
