26.08.2013 Plastic granules: high storage capacity in a small space

A.B.S. Silo- und Förderanlagen, Osterburken, Germany, has supplied an efficient indoor granulate storage system to Cologne-based plastics processor Heinrich Axmann. This consists of four flexible Flex-Silos each offering a storage capacity of 27.6t. An essential requirement was that the installation should save as much space as possible to allow plenty of room for lift-trucks to manoeuvre. The Flex-Silos – comprising uncoated, anti-static polyester fabric hung from robust steel frames – were custom-built for this project and the fact that they are of square cross-section allowed significantly better use of space compared to cylindrical silos.

The frames stand on load cells so that the control unit continuously receives information on filling level. An electric sensor serves as a full detector for additional protection against unintentional overfilling. Granulate extraction is carried out automatically by suction. Operation and monitoring are performed centrally via a control with touch panel and PC operation software. A.B.S. was responsible for the complete project, including assembly and commissioning. The company will be exhibiting at K 2013 (Hall 13, Stand D29). www.abs-silos.de
