02.09.2013 Versatile weight indicator for belt conveyors

Penko Engineering, Ede, the Netherlands, has launched the 1020-bw, a variant of its new 1020 general purpose weight indicator specially adapted for use with beltweighers. The company points out that beltweighers are automatic devices, designed for the control, regulation and totalising of continuous flows of bulk material. Frequently a part of the belt conveyor is provided with weighing capability (m/l), giving the load per meter of the conveyor. A length measuring device establishes the displacement (l). Multiplying of both values (m/l x l = m) shows the mass of the bulk material, transported over the weigher. Simultaneously the belt speed, the displacement per unit of time (l/t), is established. This way the mass flow (m/l x l/t = m/t) can be calculated. The 1020-bw can provide a lot of information, including:

  • Total transported mass (m)
  • Mass flow (m/s)
  • Belt speed (l/t)
  • Load on the belt (m/l).
In addition to presenting this information, it is possible to switch off or control the supply of the belt conveyor. In this way the mass flow can be regulated and a preset amount of bulk material can be delivered. The instrument has three inputs, four outputs and communication via Ethernet and USB. As an option an analogous output and communication RS232, RS422/RS485, CANbus and Profibus are available. www.penko.com
