23.06.2014 Custom gate valves supplied in record time

European Gate Valves, Stowmarket, UK, was approached at short notice in February to submit a tender for a project that was about to start. The intended supplier had told the customer at the last minute that it was unable to meet the deadline set.  The valves were destined for a Lincolnshire based energy-from-waste plant, where they were to be inserted between the post combustion chamber and a new ash conveyor.  The process conditions required: that the valves operate up to a maximum temperature of 600°C; hydraulic actuation/powerpack; inlet opening of 2500 x 600mm; stainless steel internals; no rollers, supports or guides; and actuate with a maximum of 3t of ash/refractory lining on the gate which could fall from up to 10m.  The two valves were required to be delivered in just eight weeks to coincide with planned shutdown required to install the ash conveyor.

The valves were designed to ensure that there was no equipment in the product flow. They were supplied with a hydraulic powerpack that allowed both of them, each having two hydraulic rams, to be actuated independently and also having an emergency failover where one pump on the powerpack could in an emergency be used to power both valves while spare parts were sourced. They were delivered to the customer on schedule. www.egatevalves.co.uk
