SUMMARY:Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Solids
DESCRIPTION:This intensive course was originally prepared at the request of the Department of Trade and Industry and first held in 1981. Since then hundreds of engineers from industry have attended. The course is regularly updated to reflect changes in industrial practice and new developments in pneumatic conveying technology.\n\nDuring the course we'll cover subjects including system components\, design techniques\, operation and control of blow tank systems\, explosion hazards and operational problems. The course also deals with the important but often neglected area of interfacing storage bins with conveying systems.\n\nCourse overview\nThis intensive course was originally prepared at the request of the Department of Trade and Industry and first held in 1981. Since then hundreds of engineers from industry have attended. The course is regularly updated to reflect changes in industrial practice and new developments in pneumatic conveying technology.\nDuring the course we&#8217\;ll cover subjects including system components\, design techniques\, operation and control of blow tank systems\, explosion hazards and operational problems. The course also deals with the important but often neglected area of interfacing storage bins with conveying systems.\nYou will learn:\n\nTechniques for reducing product degradation during conveying\nWays to reduce maintenance\, repair and unplanned stoppages to pneumatic conveying equipment\nMethods of reducing energy consumption\nHow to troubleshoot problematic systems\nHow to eliminate blockages in pneumatic pipelines\nExplosion Hazards including ATEX Directives\nOperation and control of blow tanks\nSystem selection and operation\nInterfacing storage bins to conveying systems\nRelevant case studies from industry\n\nFormat\nThis course emphasises the practical aspects of technology. We&#8217\;ll begin with a comprehensive introduction to give a basic understanding of the operation of pneumatic pipelines\, before moving on to more detailed work.\nWe&#8217\;ll use case studies throughout to illustrate the presentations\, with plenty of discussion periods so that we can analyse any specific problems experienced by attendees.\nFor those delegates staying for the practical workshop\, there will be demonstrations and discussions involving relevant equipment in our laboratories.\nSubjects covered\n\nIntroduction to pneumatic conveying\nTroubleshooting\nDesigning out potential problems\nPractical examples\nDilute and dense phase conveying explained\nSelecting the correct hardware for your application\nMatching appropriate feeders to pneumatic systems\nDust control methodology\nPractical design considerations\nElimination of explosion hazards\nPositive and negative pressure systems\n\nFor those wanting a more in-depth look at Pneumatic Conveying System Design an advanced course has been designed. See here for details.\nPractical Workshop\nFor more information on the workshops please see here\nIs this for me?\nIf you are a plant designer\, plant manager or work in maintenance\, this course will improve your ability to deal with the design and troubleshooting of plants.\nYou&#8217\;ll also benefit if you are from operational staff or senior management through a better understanding of what can go wrong and how to make your plant as efficient and trouble-free as possible. The course is ideal for those new to materials handling\, those who require an update on the subject\, or those who need a working knowledge of a wide variety of materials handling technologies.\nVenue\nThe Park\; Nether Langwith\, Notts\nCourse Team\nThe course leader is Mike Bradley\, Professor of Bulk and Particulate Technologies and Director of The Wolfson Centre. He has worked internationally on design and troubleshooting of bulk solids handling as a commercial consultant and research expert for over thirty years.\nContributions will also be made from Dr Atul Sharma\, whose interests lie in pneumatic conveying systems.\nPlease note that The Wolfson Centre reserves the right to substitute leaders of equal quality should this be dictated by circumstances beyond their control.\nIn-Company course\nThis course can be delivered as an In-Company course. These are proving to be a popular option for companies who have a number of personnel who would benefit from education in the subject area\, for 3 main reasons:\n\nCost: It is more economic for us to bring the course to you\, than for you to send several staff out to us\;\nRelevance: We can tailor the course programme to suit the operations you have in your plant\, hence reducing the amount of material which is not directly relevant\;\nConvenience: We can run the course when it suits you\, even over several separate days rather than in a block if it is better for you.\n\nIf you are interested in discussing your requirements\, please contact us.\n\nWebsite: https://www.gre.ac.uk/engsci/research/groups/wolfsoncentre/coupro/sc/pcobs
