07.09.2020 Conditioning abrasive ash

Ajax Equipment, Bolton, UK, has supplied leading specialist waste treatment, recycling and disposal services supplier, Castle Environmental, with a high specification, ash conditioner for an air pollution control residues (APCr) recycling plant.

The stainless-steel ash conditioner is based on Ajax’s twin screw mixer, ensuring effective mixing and conditioning of the ash, and features spray bars to add acidic liquor. Handling APCr presents risks of severe wear damage and so Ajax recommended paddle augers constructed from Abrazo, a wear resistant steel, which would increase the auger’s service life.

Commenting, Thomas Evans, project manager at Castle Environmental, said, “Installing the ash conditioner from Ajax Equipment allows us to divert more waste away from landfill and meet our target of recycling more APCr.”

“Ash conditioners are regularly requested from Ajax, so we are very familiar with the mixing duty and equipment design features that processing ash requires. In addition to the handling requirements, ash also has specific cleaning needs,” said Ajax managing director, Eddie McGee. “Ash conditioners should be cleaned regularly so the machine includes useful design features like counterbalanced covers allowing easy access for inspection and washdown.” www.ajax.co.uk
