18.01.2021 Kevin Peterson to retire from Vortex

Vortex Global, Salina, KS, has announced that Kevin R Peterson will be retiring from the company at the end of January. During his 25 years with Vortex, he held many key positions including director of marketing, special projects director, regional sales manager, and director of business development.


His significant involvement in the dry bulk industry includes membership of the International Association of Operative Millers, International Milling Education Foundation, the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, and the Industrial Minerals Association of North America.


Peterson was elected an emeritus member of the International Association of Operative Millers, was a past advisory board member of the Powder & Bulk Solids Expo, and served on the board of directors of the Industrial Minerals Association of North America.  He received the Outstanding Service Award from Kansas State University’s Department of Grain Science and Industry.  He was a contributor to the Dust Control Handbook for Industrial Minerals Mining and Processing published by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).


While at Vortex, he travelled extensively throughout North America to advise companies involved in the processing, handling and transport of dry bulk materials.  He authored hundreds of case studies and numerous articles for industry publications.


Several key management changes have meanwhile taken place at Vortex which came into effect at the beginning of January:

•    Travis Young has been appointed president of the company, in addition to his role as CEO.
•    Jeff Thompson is stepping down as president and chief operating officer, but will retain his position as chief financial officer.
•    Brian Burmaster has been promoted to chief sales & marketing officer (CSO).
•    Cory Downing has been promoted to chief operating officer (COO).
