03.12.2012 Three-way sorting of small objects

Key Technology, Walla Walla, WA, has introduced three-way sorting capability for its Optyx camera/laser sorter. Featuring two ejector systems and three outfeed streams, the upgraded machine now allows processors automatically to remove foreign material and waste in one stream while assigning the other two sort streams to separate good product of different grades.
Three-way sorting is available on Optyx 3000 and 6000 models which are capable of throughputs of 6t/h and 12t/h, respectively. The system utilises the company’s unique built-in sorting intelligence to separate product into three streams based on a combination of product-specific attributes. Colour cameras recognize each object’s size, shape, and millions of colour differences. Laser technology is used to inspect the distinctive structural properties of each object to identify additional product attributes and reliably detect foreign material. Products that can be sorted in this way include nuts, seeds, raisins, tablets and capsules as well as larger objects such as fruit and vegetables. The company’s European head office is in Beusichem, the Netherlands. www.key.net
