17.12.2012 Nurturing the next generation of engineers

Over the past two and a half years Guttridge, Spalding, UK, has been working with universities across the UK to provide students with an introduction to the world of manufacturing. As reported last year, the company’s placement and intern programme attracts undergraduates from the fields of engineering, design, IT and production, allowing them to work on projects from inception to completion within a supportive team structure. The aim is that they will become inspired to take up long-term careers in industry.
Chairman Peter Guttridge is personally committed to the scheme. “It is important for undergraduates to gain a true picture of what it is like to work in industry and hopefully be enthused by what manufacturing has to offer. We make sure that our placement students see a project through from start to finish so that they get a really broad experience. The feedback has been really positive, with participants saying that this approach compares very favourably with the experience of spending the whole year working in just a single area.” www.guttridge.co.uk
