23.09.2013 Offshore pneumatic conveying of fish feed

GRAINTEC, a Danish company, is one of the few specialist firms capable of planning and implementing salmon feed production plants and gentle handling systems for the feed. It has been working in association with Gericke, Regensdorf, Switzerland, to supply feed handling systems for Norwegian fish farms.

The extruded pellets must be subjected to as little abrasion as possible despite the many transfer processes. Gericke pulse flow technology provides extremely gentle transport. The pellets are handled so smoothly that there is virtually no abrasion. This is important, because the fish are often very selective about their feed. If the feed pieces are too severely damaged the fish will ignore them.
The Gericke pneumatic conveying system is also noted for its very high standard of hygiene. This prevents pathogens from entering the fish enclosures with the food. The solution from Gericke also has significantly lower energy consumption than other pneumatic conveying systems. "Our pressure conveying systems are particularly efficient in their use of the conveying air. The customer can therefore transport more product in the same volume of conveying air." explained Markus Gericke, CEO of the Gericke Group. The operator of a fish farm can save compressed air, which requires an energy-intensive compression process to generate it. www.gericke.net
