21.10.2013 Fully automatic bulk container tilting unit

Zeppelin Systems (see above) has introduced a Container Tilting Unit (CTU) that can manage the complete filling and discharge processes, from lifting the container from the truck and tilting it, to placing the container back on to the vehicle afterwards. While conventional tilting units normally use large hoists or require the whole operation to be divided into separate steps, the CTU operates fully automatically. With a length of 14.1m, a tilted height of 13.5m and weighing 39t, the unit can accommodate 20, 30 or 40ft ISO containers weighing up to 30.4t. It will soon be available in a choice of dimensions to match the size of the container, in addition to combined units that can be adjusted to the container size by using a gantry crane system.

The device has already been successfully field tested. A plastics producer in Venezuela installed CTUs in five different locations as part of a state-subsidised housing project called Petrocasa, where whole houses are made from PVC. Since the PVC powder is supplied in 40ft containers, it was necessary to find a cost-efficient discharge system that was easy to use. www.zeppelin-systems.com
