11.11.2013 Guidance on weighing safety in hazardous areas

Mettler Toledo points out that failing to meet hazardous area equipment operation standards can create significant liabilities for processing industries. To help avoid the negative consequences of operating non-compliant equipment and ensure safety, the company has created a free, downloadable poster to help determine if weighing equipment is suitably protected for use in a certified hazardous area.
The poster entitled “Marking of weighing equipment for hazardous areas” has been designed to help processing industries meet the challenges of ensuring safe, compliant equipment operation. It covers IECEx, ATEX and FM electrical labelling standards, hazardous-area classifications and equipment ignition-protection types. Easy and quick identification of markings and protection methods can help operators ensure weighing equipment complies with appropriate regulatory hazardous area standards. The information will also be of interest to non-Mettler Toledo customers.
To help ensure hazardous-area weighing equipment applications stay safe and compliant, readers are invited to download the poster at: www.mt.com/ind-intrinsic-safe
