27.01.2014 Large aluminium silos have anti-honking rings

Barton Fabrications, Portishead, Bristol, UK, has manufactured two aluminium silos for Leeds-based Northern Storage. Among the largest of their type ever installed in Great Britain, each 300t capacity vessel has a diameter of 4.2m and is 24m high – the largest unit size that can be transported on UK roads. They were craned into position under Barton supervision in under four hours and will be employed to store plastic granules including polyethylene terephthalate (PET). They are equipped with anti-honking rings, designed to reduce noise and potential failure problems associated with resonant vibration which can arise when storing and handling PET granules.
Charles Durrans, managing director of Northern Storage, said: “Our storage service, which uses Barton’s silos, gives our customers security of supply and better timing control as they can purchase plastic feedstock at a time to suit them, when commodity prices are favourable. We have seen an increase in the demand for storage capacity and, as we were delighted by the quality of the Barton silos we purchased in 2010, we appointed them to supply the two new silos.” A further two Barton silos are on order and will be supplied to Northern Storage later in 2014. www.bartonfabs.co.uk
