19.05.2014 First FIBC made from PET tape fabric

At interpack earlier this month Starlinger and SABIC together exhibited a flexible intermediate bulk container made from PET tape fabric. The two companies have jointly developed the technology for production of this type of fabric which offers exceptionally high strength and long-term form stability. This break-through introduces interesting possibilities, especially in areas of commodity and bulk logistics.

FIBCs made of PET tape fabric have superior dimensional stability owing to their greater rigidity and higher creep modulus compared to conventional woven polypropylene bulk bags. They are capable of maintaining shape and circumference during long storage periods and in hot weather. PET FIBCs can be used for packaging bulk materials with very fluid flow characteristics such as expandable polystyrene beads and polymer chips with slip additives. Traditional PP FIBCs are unsuitable for carrying these types of materials as they would be prone to excessive bulging and poor load stability. www.starlinger.com
