01.12.2014 FIBC grounding guaranteed during filling/discharge

Kersting GmbH Sampling + Grounding, Brilon, Germany, has launched a fail-safe system which ensures that FIBCs are properly earthed where there is risk of explosion from static electricity. The company points out that the explosion hazard is highest when a potentially explosive atmosphere caused by a combination of dust and a dangerously high charge occurs at the same time and place. For this reason the use of proper grounding equipment is an important precaution against the occurrence of spark discharges. Experience shows that in practice this is not as simple as it seems. Under the pressure of time this can be forgotten or performed inadequately so that equipment remains ungrounded.

The new Farado® FIBC can help to prevent such dangerous situations by locking the charge generating process unless proper grounding has been carried out. This means that the operator cannot continue until he has attached the grounding clamp to the grounding lug of the FIBC to ensure dissipation. After the monitoring system has recognised the bulk bag, filling or emptying can take place. In this way any build-up of charge is excluded and sources of ignition by static electricity can effectively be avoided. www.kersting-ind.de
