20.04.2015 Advances in semi-bulk transport/storage of viscous liquids

Schütz, Selters, Germany, has introduced two innovations to its range of IBCs which will benefit users handling paints, varnishes and emulsions. For products of this type to remain homogeneous, they often need to be stirred. However, the mere immersion of the agitator of a stationary or mobile mixer represents a potential contamination risk. The latest development from Schütz – an integral impeller for stirring up even minimal product residues inside the container – prevents such contamination. The impeller is integrated into the IBC’s screw cap and is available for all 1000 and 1250-litre Ecobulk containers. It fits both the DN 150 and DN 225 filling openings and is made entirely of HDPE. For stirring, a conventional drive system is simply connected to the impeller by means of a matching adapter.

The second key Schütz development relating to viscous liquids is the new Ecobulk HX IBC. Thanks to its sloping base and closed, sturdy supporting cushion, optimised discharge geometry and low-level discharge valve, this container ensures drainability to less than 0.3 litres even for viscous media. The Ecobulk HX was specially made for fields of application until now almost exclusively reserved for high-grade steel systems. This meant more administration work for IBC returns, elaborate and expensive washing processes – often even involving chemicals – yet still with the residual risk of contamination, not forgetting the high cost of repairs. Both innovations were featured on the Schütz stand at the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg earlier this week. www.schuetz.net
