Portasilo, Huntington, York, UK, has supplied a turnkey bulk storage and handling system to the Dagenham plant of Closed Loop Recycling, the UK’s leading food-grade recycling facility for bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). Scope of supply included five metal silos, each capable of storing approximately 35t of HDPE; pneumatic conveying systems; and all ancillary pipework, hoppers and valves. Each of the ATEX-compliant silos was equipped with complex control sensors, including continuous level indication and pressure monitoring, to ensure optimised flow and operation. Special measures were adopted to prevent formation of angel hair. The project was completed on time and within budget.

 

Closed Loop Recycling’s new plant has the capacity to process 70,000t of bottles annually (equivalent to 875 million bottles, or nearly 10% of the UK’s current plastic bottle recycling). www.portasilo.co.uk
