20.08.2012 Silos and blenders for recycled PVC

BartonFabrications, Portishead, Bristol, UK, has installed two new silos and static blenders at the Chippenham site of plastic pipe manufacturer Wavin. They are being used for storage and processing of raw materials used in the production of Recycore®, a multi-layer pipe made from at least 50% recycled PVC. Commenting on the purchase of the silos and blenders, Andrew Ryall development manager at Wavin said: “Using recycled material presents additional challenges in achieving a high level of homogeneity from batch to batch. Barton provided a piggyback silo design, where one silo is mounted directly over another in the same housing.

This double vessel allows us to store batches of plastic feedstock separately without increasing the overall storage footprint.” To achieve greater homogeneity of materials Wavin reviewed several different types of blender, including fountain blenders. The Barton static blender was selected as it combines simplicity and virtually no maintenance with effective feedstock mixing.
