02.11.2015 Diverter valve wins food safety award

Coperion (see above) was winner of the Food Safety Innovations Award for its CIP design WYK diverter valve at the 2015 International Dairy Show which was held mid-September in Chicago, IL. The patent-pending design of the WYK valve incorporates an innovative retractable rotor assembly and is completely designed in accordance with European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) guidelines, permitting automatic cleaning of pneumatic conveying pipes. The valve is believed to be unique in this respect.

The WYK two-way diverter valve is especially well suited for inline handling of hygienic and difficult to handle powders, such as whey powder, lactose, dried milk powders and infant formula. It can be used in pneumatic conveying systems to divert transfer of powder to different locations, and is often employed in return lines in spray drying applications. The fully automatic CIP (cleaning-in-place) design permits complete purging of all product residues after the automatic cleaning process. Owing to the retractable rotor assembly, the rotor can be pulled slightly out of the housing towards the rear of the valve, thus allowing the cleaning solution to rinse all product contact surfaces within the valve. In addition, special purge openings in the actuator plate enable an intense rinsing flow and complete discharge of the rinse effluent. www.coperion.com
