Bulk Solids Innovation Center welcomes arrival of Coperion as well as its first research director
Coperion, Stuttgart, Germany, reports that the recently inaugurated Bulk Solids Innovation Center in Salina, KS (see EBS News for the weeks of 26 May 2014 and 25 May 2015) is now the new home of the Materials Handling Test Lab for Coperion and Coperion K-Tron in the Americas. The Center, led by Kansas State University, is the only one of its kind in North America. It offers every type of pneumatic conveying, multiple valves, feeders, storage hoppers of various geometries and several types of particulate air filtration.
In October John Lawrence was appointed the first research director at the Center. A native of Nagercoil, India, he previously served as the lead researcher and director at IntelliFarms, a grain management company in Missouri. He has a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering and a master's degree in agricultural processing from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in India. He earned a doctorate in agricultural and biological engineering from Purdue University. He undertook post-doctoral research at the University of Arkansas and at Kansas State University in Manhattan. "Coming from the private sector, John has a vast understanding of the needs and challenges faced by the bulk solids industry," said Kurt Barnhart, associate dean of research at the Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus.
