New Screw Helps Iko’s Heat Transfer Blender Keep Mixing
Solids handling equipment specialist, Ajax Equipment, has supplied construction solution manufacturer, IKO, with a new mixing screw for an existing Ajax vertical heat transfer blender that has performed reliably, processing limestone powder for over 14 years.
The blender uses heated oil passed through the hopper’s jacket and mixing screw to raise the temperature of the powder. Ajax designed the mass flow ‘fountain’ type mixing screw to provide a high recirculation rate of material, which when combined with the blender’s hopper geometry provides excellent heat transfer efficiency and helps to achieve homogeneity throughout the batch.
Commenting, Alex Hill, Reliability Engineer at IKO, said: “As always, Ajax completed the job within the set timeframes. Ajax quickly provided a quote for the works and then ensured the new mixing screw was installed during the planned shutdown. A great team to work with!”
“When originally working with IKO the limited headroom available was one of the key considerations. Vertical blenders provide a space-efficient method of mixing large batches of material and which lend themselves to efficient heat transfer when the screw and hopper are heated, and so were ideally matched to IKO’s requirements. Together with the reversable screw feeders below, Ajax’s blender design ensures that batches of limestone powder are efficiently processed and then transferred to the required outlet,” said Eddie McGee, Managing Director, Ajax Equipment.
