Announcing: Conference on “Fire Prevention in Biomass and Bulk Materials Storage”
The University of Greenwich’s Medway campus will host the 4th Conference in the ‘Silo Fires’ series on 10 June 2025. Organised by the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, the event aims to raise awareness about fires in silos and flat storage facilities, discussing prevention and management strategies.
Unlike explosions, which are regulated under DSEAR, fires in bulk solids storage often receive less attention despite their frequency. The conference will provide insights through case studies, discussions on current scientific research, and guidance on managing fire incidents, including safety measures through design and operational practices.
Confirmed presentations include:
- Lynemouth Power: Case Study on Fire Incidents
- Southdowne Solutions: Silo Fire Ignition Sources
- Firefly: Early Fire Detection, Prevention, and Preparation
- Robecco and Thorwestern Vent: Silo Fire Safety 2.0
- The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology: Predicting Self-Heating in Large Biomass Stores
Additional presentations will be announced on the event website.
Early bird registration is available at £200 per person until 9 May 2025, after which the standard fee of £250 will apply. Various sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are also available.
