Bühler acquires endeco to accelerate innovation
Bühler Group has acquired German plant engineering company endeco GmbH and its subsidiary, endeco Protein and Food, strengthening its position in the fast-growing sector.
The acquisition builds on a successful partnership between the two companies that has been in place since 2022.
Over the past several years, Bühler and endeco have worked closely together on customer projects focused on plant-based proteins, combining their complementary strengths to deliver innovative solutions. Their collaboration has also included the operation of the Protein Application Center at Bühler’s headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland.
The partnership has united endeco’s expertise in plant engineering and process technologies for starch, protein and food applications with Bühler’s global reach, scale and broad technology portfolio.
Together, the companies have supported customers across the entire value chain, helping to close capability gaps, accelerate innovation and advance industrial-scale production of plant-based protein solutions.
“Endeco brings a strong combination of agility, process expertise and a highly solution-oriented mindset that complements Bühler’s existing capabilities,” said Mike Häfeli, CEO business grains & food at Bühler Group.
“We see significant potential to create additional value together, not only in proteins, but across other areas of our business.”
For endeco, the acquisition represents a natural progression of an already successful relationship.
“We have been working with Bühler for years, so this is a logical next step,” said Karl-Heinz Bergmann, managing director of endeco.
“We share the same ambition of getting plant-based protein out of the pilot plant and into industrial-scale production. What changes is that we can now do more of that, faster and for more customers. Our team and our way of working stay exactly as they are.”
Endeco will continue operating as endeco, a Bühler company.
Existing customers in the starch and dairy sectors in Germany will continue to work with the same teams and contacts. The companies will increasingly collaborate on joint projects, while the Protein Application Center will be integrated into Bühler’s Special Grains and Pulses business unit.
