Solids handling specialist Ajax Equipment has supplied a cutting-edge feed system for Binding Solutions Limited’s (BSL) new pilot plant, which processes iron ore and additives. BSL’s innovative technology transforms iron ore fines into high-value pellets for steelmaking, reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency compared to traditional methods like sintering and induration.

The Ajax Equipment system includes a buffer hopper, screw feeder, and agitated screw feeder. The hopper, capable of holding approximately 1 ton of material, features a steep-walled ‘V’ section to ensure smooth material flow. The horizontal screw feeder ensures consistent material extraction, while the agitated screw feeder, made from wear-resistant steel, provides precise feed control for downstream processing. A retractable screw and casing design allow for easy maintenance.

Lewis Shaw, technical sales engineer at Ajax, conducted material flow tests to optimize the hopper design and feeder configuration. “We ensured the system handles even the most challenging materials reliably,” Shaw said.

Paul Wrathmall, Head of Applications Technology at BSL, praised Ajax’s innovative solutions, stating their partnership is advancing the modernization of the ironmaking industry.
