“Packaging as a Service” for Ultra-Light Powder Bagging
Greif-Velox Maschinenfabrik GmbH has launched a new service model that enables industrial powder producers to access automated bagging equipment without the need for upfront investment. Known as “Packaging as a Service” (PaaS), the offering combines machine leasing, maintenance, spare parts, consumables, and bag supply into a fixed monthly fee.
The model is initially being implemented alongside the company’s VeloVac vacuum bagging system, which is designed for dust-free handling of ultra-light powders. Additional machines, including the A-DOS-P1 automatic filling system and the BVP pneumatic packer, are planned for inclusion in the programme.
Greif-Velox’s PaaS approach follows trends in other sectors where equipment-as-a-service models are used to improve cost predictability and reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX). In this case, customers are provided with a full bagging line, including related services, while paying a monthly operational expense (OPEX) instead of purchasing equipment outright.
The system is aimed at facilities seeking stable operating costs and increased system availability. All technical maintenance, spare parts supply, and consumable coordination are managed by Greif-Velox, allowing operators to reduce their internal resource requirements. The model includes an option to purchase the equipment at the end of the contract term.
The VeloVac system offers technical benefits such as compacted bagging of ultra-light powders, which can contribute to reduced packaging volume and increased filling speed. Remote support is available through a digital service platform, while spare parts logistics are supported by a consignment warehouse with automated replenishment.
In collaboration with dy-pack Verpackungen Gustav Dyckerhoff GmbH, Greif-Velox also supplies bags that are tailored to the equipment. These SAFEDyVac bags are designed to improve sealing performance and reduce material usage.
The PaaS model is supported by partnerships with Siemens Financial Services and aims to provide a complete solution that addresses cost control, operational reliability, and supply security. It may appeal to producers looking for a lower-risk way to upgrade or expand bagging capacity for powder products, particularly where handling efficiency and dust containment are priorities.
