31.07.2023 POWTECH: BHS-Sonthofen puts focus on laboratory and pilot tests

BHS-Sonthofen ensures successful project execution with individual test concepts tailored to its customers particularly from the chemical industry. At this year's POWTECH, the machine and plant manufacturer is therefore placing a special focus on laboratory and pilot trials. The exhibits at booth 213 in hall 4A include a new laboratory belt filter and a type HTC-T horizontal dryer.

“We accompany our customers as a reliable partner from the initial consultation and laboratory tests to achieving the guaranteed parameters of the production plant,” says Dr. Simon Esser, who heads the testing department at BHS in the Process Technology business unit. The laboratory and pilot tests offer a high degree of investment security.

To fully utilize all efficiency potentials, BHS approaches each project with an in-depth analysis of the processes. “Together with the customer, we develop an individual test concept in a series of detailed discussions. Laboratory and pilot scale trials allow us to optimize the design of the equipment and create a flow chart of the overall process. Based on this, we then develop a tailor-made offer for the customer,” says Esser.

In recent years, BHS-Sonthofen has continuously expanded its sales and test capacities in Germany, China, India and the USA to enable laboratory and pilot tests for a wide range of applications. The exhibits at the BHS booth at POWTECH show two different process steps in the laboratory and in the test center. BHS will present a new laboratory indexing filter, a compact version of the proven indexing belt filter. This continuously operating vacuum filter, which separates solids from suspensions safely and gently, is used in a wide range of treatment processes. Also on display is the horizontal dryer of type HTC-T 140, which is used in many different production processes in the chemical industry. The continuous and efficient mixing of the drying product enables optimum utilization of the heated heat exchange surface and uniform product quality – a unique feature of this machine.

The process parameters of laboratory and production machine are essentially identical. This allows reliable scaling up to the production machine and a seamless transition to large-scale production in the chemical or food industry. Successful commissioning requires interdisciplinary cooperation between project management, process engineering and control engineering. During installation and commissioning, customers can rely on individual support and technical expertise from BHS. “We always carry out the commissioning in close cooperation with the customer and pay attention to every detail. This is to transfer process engineering know-how to customers,” explains Esser. “So, in the long run, they will be able to control their process independently.”
