14.01.2013 X-ray analysis of bulk foods in free fall

Mekitec Oy, Oulu, Finland, the specialist manufacturer of X-ray devices for food quality control, has developed the first ever free-fall X-ray device for bulk foodstuffs such as grain, nuts, rice and sugar. BULKMEKI™ is a completely new X-ray food control system for products in continuous flow and thanks to the fact that inspection takes place at an adjustable angle, the system does not need to work in association with a conveyor. It is capable of reliably inspecting high-volume throughputs.
The device has been designed for applications that were previously considered to be too challenging or very cost-intensive for traditional X-ray based quality control systems. Since the company’s roots lie in the design, manufacture and optimisation of the detector and X-ray generator, it has been able to reduce significantly the high costs normally associated with these key components. BULKMEKI has evolved from the MEKI line of automated product quality control systems which use the latest X-ray image processing technology. www.mekitec.com
