22.04.2013 Efficient production of soluble coffee in Thailand

In recent years Lindor, Dordrecht, the Netherlands, has been supplying its ‘gentle touch’ mixers to CMYK Ltd in Thailand, the exclusive co-manufacturer in the region for Nestlé, the world’s largest food company. CMYK specialises in production and packaging of instant coffee and tea, including ice tea and lemon tea. A decisive feature of the current production process is the use of Lindor mixers in preference to ribbon mixers which are widely used in Asia. This has resulted in considerable reduction in mixing times, better and faster cleaning and superior quality of the end product.

Several Lindor L1000 mixers are used for the coffee powder mixing process. These units can cope with a batch volume of 1000 litres (or 500kg of product) and can produce around 5000kg/h. The process was optimised by CMYK in cooperation with Lindor and AMH Technologies of Malaysia (which designed and built the two most recent lines) to be able to process 8-10 batches per hour. This is partly possible thanks to a net mixing time of no more than two minutes per batch.
Mr Thanakorn Thedratanawong, managing director and owner of CMYK, explained: “Thanks to the Lindor mixers we can mix our raw materials to the optimum in a short time into a high quality instant product. With a small Lindor laboratory mixer we can try out new recipes easily and then scale them up to daily production.” www.lindor.nl
