Penthouse silos enhance safe working at height
A Midlands-based food company has installed two new 80t capacity flour silos supplied by Barton Fabrications, Bristol, UK. The aluminium silo specialist has also been contracted to upgrade two existing silos at the same site. The 20m high new silos are linked by a high level gantry and are built to Barton’s ‘Penthouse’ design. This incorporates an enclosure at the top of the silo which houses filtration and metering equipment and accommodates the explosion panels necessary for ATEX compliance. The enclosure provides a safe, weather-protected working environment for maintenance and calibration activities. In addition, it minimises the risk of contamination during these procedures.
Commenting on the installation, managing director Mark Barton said: “We were pleased to be selected for the installation/upgrade work in recognition of the long, trouble-free service of the existing silos and our now well established Penthouse ATEX-compliant design. We worked closely with both the engineering contractor and customer to ensure minimum production disruption – the removal, refurbishment and re-installation of each silo was achieved in just three days.” www.bartonfabs.co.uk
