12.08.2013 Plastics handling and recycling advances

ProTec Polymer Processing, Bensheim, Germany, will be unveiling two key innovations at the K-Show in October (Hall 9, Stand D60). The new gravimetric batch dosing system SOMOS® BB 500 can handle up to four components and throughput rates up to 500kg/h. The device is mounted directly on the material intake of the processing machine – or on a frame next to the machine – and can be equipped with SOMOS suction conveyors for automatic filling of the material supply tanks. This batch-dosing device is especially suitable for feeding injection moulding machines as well as extruders with multiple component mixtures.

The company will also be presenting the OHL process at this exhibition for the first time. It allows washed flakes reclaimed from used PET bottles to be reprocessed into rPET with material properties that are just like virgin material. Essentially, this bottle-to-bottle recycling method uses two process steps: a continuous extrusion process and the subsequent, discontinuous treatment of the extracted pellets in the OHL tumble reactor. This is supported by upstream, in-between and subsequent auxiliary processes with the corresponding plant components. The rPET extracted in this manner has an acetaldehyde content of ≤ 1ppm and overall material properties like virgin PET. www.sp-protec.com
