28.10.2013 Palletless bag unitisation system now offers four-way forklift access

The Möllers Group, Beckum, Germany, has further refined its palletless shipping unit for bagged materials by incorporating a light-weight plastic pallet replacement which provides forklift access from all four sides. This latest innovation, which was unveiled at the K-Show earlier this month, is believed to be a worldwide first. A few years ago the two-way packaging system was successfully introduced to the market. Four sacks form the base of a stack with an overall weight of 1475kg which is subsequently robustly wrapped with stretch film by means of patented counter-hood technology, allowing the entire package to be transported, stored and safely protected from the elements. This results in cost savings through elimination of wooden pallets and up to 7% higher utilisation of ISO freight containers.
In conjunction with the American EXIM Group a plastic tray has been developed which achieves the necessary force absorption and edge stability. During numerous tests performed at the Maschinenfabrik Möllers test facility in Beckum this technology has been continuously improved with strong partner support of Dow Chemical for this latest product launch, including the use of new stretch hood film based on Dow ELITE™ AT (advanced technology) resins. With this latest advance wood is no longer required, storage capacity for empty pallets is eliminated, pallet handling also becomes superfluous and off-grade plastic material is channeled to a new field of application with scope for further recycling. www.moellersgroup.com
