10.02.2014 Hand-held test device for load cells

Thames Side Sensors, Reading, UK, has introduced the Model LCT-U advanced diagnostic load cell tester, a stand-alone instrument specially designed for fast, comprehensive troubleshooting of strain gauge load cells. Comprehensive information about the load cell being tested is available, including the bridge resistance and integrity, physical distortion (possibly caused by overload, shock load or metal fatigue) and insulation resistance (which can indicate moisture or chemical ingress).

A full load cell test can be completed within five seconds. Physical distortion of a load cell can be easily diagnosed in the field, a feature not available in most competitive testing instruments. The unit is also very easy to use, as coloured LEDs can highlight suspicious readings.  It is durable, lightweight, battery operated (with 4 x Type AA) and it has a working stand to raise the unit off the desk, so it can be taken to the remotest locations without the need for power or a large flat surface to work on. The company’s website includes a video showing the operation of the unit. www.thames-side.com
