Urs Bühler: 1943-2025
Bühler has announced the passing of Urs Bühler, who died on 1 August 2025 at the age of 82. Mr Bühler played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and transformation over more than five decades, serving as owner, CEO and Chairman of the Board.
Born in Uzwil in 1943, he studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich before joining the family business in 1970. Over the years, he oversaw Bühler’s international expansion, entry into new technology fields, and early adoption of modern information and automation systems. He became CEO in 1986 and Chairman in 1994, guiding the business to become a global technology group serving the food and mobility sectors.
In 2014, Mr Bühler completed a carefully planned succession process, transferring company shares to his daughters Karin, Maya, and Jeannine, ensuring the company’s continuation as a family-owned enterprise. He also held positions on several corporate boards, including the Swiss Bank Corporation and Sulzer Group, and contributed for decades to the Swiss engineering association Swissmem.
His leadership was marked by a commitment to innovation, reflected in initiatives such as the Urs Bühler Innovation Fund, the Cubic Innovation Campus, and the Bühler Energy Center.
Outside business, he was known for his interest in equestrian sports, skiing, and holistic health, founding Health Balance AG in 2004.
