Royal Grolsch brewery in the Netherlands has partnered with Schoeller Allibert to introduce sustainable pallets made entirely from recycled plastics, supporting its transition toward a circular economy. The new pallets, in use since January 2025, replace outdated, heavier models that no longer met the brewery’s operational or environmental requirements.

Schoeller Allibert developed the tailor-made keg pallets using 100% post-consumer and post-industrial recycled plastics. A high-pressure injection moulding process and honeycomb structure have reduced the pallet weight by 12 kilograms, improving handling and lowering CO₂ emissions by up to 83% compared to virgin material alternatives.

Additional design features include smoother fork entries for easier forklift access, enhanced stackability, and seamless integration with existing pallets. The collaboration reflects a shared focus on sustainable innovation between the two companies.

Once the pallets reach end-of-life, Schoeller Allibert reclaims and recycles them, completing the circular product lifecycle.

Sustainable pallets made from recycled plastic – the result of a joint project between Schoeller Allibert and the Dutch brewery Royal Grolsch.

The new pallet is lighter and stronger thanks to its honeycomb structure, and its stackability reduces the space required for return transportation.
