Lantmännen opens major new grain‑handling hub at Uddevalla

Lantmännen has inaugurated a large‑scale grain facility at the Port of Uddevalla, marking Sweden’s most significant grain‑infrastructure investment since the 1980s.
The SEK 500 million (€44.6 million) project delivers a modern, high‑capacity hub designed to strengthen grain handling, storage and export capability for farmers across western Sweden. The site incorporates 21 silos, two dryers and a total storage capacity of around 44,000 tonnes, enabling efficient intake, drying, conditioning and loading of grains during peak harvest periods. With two intake points rated at 250 tonnes per hour and a ship‑loading capacity of 500 tonnes per hour, the facility significantly increases throughput compared with the older installation it replaces.
A 400‑metre conveyor system and a 56‑metre ship loader support rapid transfer of grain to vessels of up to 30,000 tonnes, improving export logistics and reducing turnaround times. Lantmännen says the investment enhances resilience across Sweden’s grain value chain, offering farmers greater flexibility and more reliable market access. The raised automation level also improves operational efficiency and product integrity.
The company emphasises that the facility will play a strategic role in Sweden’s long‑term food preparedness by ensuring robust storage and handling capacity.
By modernising infrastructure from farm to port, Lantmännen aims to support competitiveness, expand export opportunities and strengthen the region’s position within the national grain network
