Quadruple Lump Breaker delivers space efficient size reduction for Johnson Matthey

Solids handling equipment specialist Ajax Equipment has supplied speciality chemicals and sustainable technologies company, Johnson Matthey, with a quadruple lump breaker including a bifurcated hopper below to provide flexibility when serving subsequent process streams.
Restricted plant space and achieving the throughput desired presented a challenge.
Ajax developed a quadruple lump breaker utilising four breaker rotors to provide a wide processing area, saving headroom.
The lump breaker uses twin drives, each attached to a pair of intermeshing breaker paddles manufactured from mild steel and Hardox to produce a hard-wearing design capable of reducing a range of lumps to the required size.
"The project has been a success with Ajax delivering a well-made lump breaker as I have come to expect from them," said John Lowe, engineering project manager, Johnson Matthey.
"A key advantage of working with Ajax has been the level of support provided, along with their willingness to work collaboratively to resolve any issues that arise. When we experienced an issue with a seal Ajax engaged with the vendor to review material suitability and subsequently replaced the seals with an improved alternative.”
Eddie McGee, managing director at Ajax Equipment, added: “It's testament to Ajax’s approach to solving handling problems and manufacturing ability that this lump breaker offers such a substantial capacity in a tight space, whilst also providing the agility to provide a reliable supply of material in the right condition to suit the process streams following.”
